*Starred Review* "Robertson's first novel is a Grisham-like tale of intrigue and murder about the son, Jason Boyer, of a New England financial titan and kingmaker. Jason barely knew his father, a tough, remote man who sent Jason and his brother to boarding schools, but Jason becomes sole heir upon the old man's sudden death. Jason is cynical but uncorrupted, and his first impulse is to divest himself of the old man's holdings. Then the power that his inheritance commands seduces him, and he grows as ruthless as his father. And then, once more and finally, he sees the light and proceeds to clean up all that his father and he have befouled. Or, at any rate, he tries, in this suspenseful first novel with a lot of humor and well-drawn minor characters." --

"The Heir is a novel that begins with a bang, then set on simmer... until things start to boil over. It then gets exciting as Jason is forced to make the toughest decision of his life while he deals with a fraying marriage and the fact that, although he may hate his dead father, he can be just as ruthless. Robertson's writing is spine-tingling leading up the climax, with short, choppy sentences that held this reader on the edge of his chair until the very end.
"I can't wait to read more of Robertson's work, especially seeing as this is his first novel. Bethany House has got another winner to go along with other recent acquisitions as T.L. Hines and Robin Parrish." --Nathan Knapp, infuzemag.com
Robertson's first novel is a wonderful, vicarious trip into the worlds of money, politics, and power. Not a typical 'Christian' novel, The Heir is ultimately redemptive and something to share with anyone who appreciates good writing and a great story. Recommended." --Mark Parolini, Aspiring Retail ©Aspiring Retail Official Publication of CBA. Reprinted by permission.
"Robertson's debut is an absorbing book about the lives of the wealthy and wounded. It's an admirable work--it's engagingly written, and some rather unique tags and beats enhance this well-written, though moderately paced, story" --Bev Huston, Romantic Times Book Reviews
"The Heir is a spellbinding novel of power, murder, money and trickery and poses the question without actually asking... 'What would you do if you inherited a vast amount of money and you realize it was gained from illicit and illegal means?' As stated this is a Christian Fiction novel but there certainly is not a blatant Christian agenda to the book and that's what makes this a genuine read. The Heir is simply what it is... a fantastic read with a great storyline. I look forward to future novels from Paul Robertson." --Jeff Holton, 1340mag.com
"...this is very, very good. I'm definitely interested in seeing what Paul Robertson has for us next. Recommended." --Tim Frankovich, christianifictionreview.com
"The Heir is the first book I've received in the mail, read completely, and reviewed, all in the same day. You could say it held my attention.... Inspired by the Biblical account of the rich young ruler, Robertson examines the psychology of wealth and power. The story includes murders, suspense, humor and sorrow as it illustrates that mere money will never bring happiness, or fill our hearts with hope. God is present, but The Heir is not preachy. It's just a good story presenting timeless truth." --Randy Brandt, contend4thefaith.org
"Robertson's lean and witty writing style fits the plot well. The story is told in first person through Jason's intelligent persona and delivered with enough literary razzle dazzle to make it appeal to not only the plot addict but the word junkie as well." --Violet Nesdoly, blogcritics.org
"The plot spirals into a tight web of intrigue as power rushes to fill the vacuum left by his father's death and Jason tries to right the wrongs of the past. Reading Jason work his way through to a purpose was like watching a newborn calf stand for the first time. Everything does not tie up in a neat package at the end of this book – much like life refuses to fall into simple lines. However, it is a satisfying read and worth the investment of time." --Cara Putman, christianreviewofbooks.com
"The Heir is Paul Robertson's debut novel. It reads like a John Grisham novel, back when that meant something. Robertson makes storytelling look easy. Tight chapters, concise sentences and a host of intriguing characters make The Heir one of my favorite novels I've read this year, maybe in the last few years....
Intense and compelling, The Heir is a fast, smart read. The tension and suspense constantly build off one another. Often frustrating, frequently humorous, always thought provoking, The Heir has the makings of a mystery classic. I would love to see it on the big screen! I cannot wait to see what else Robertson has in store for his readers, his fans!" --Phillip Tomasso III, inthelibraryreviews.net
"If you like film noir and the suspense genre, The Heir is right up your (dark) alley. On the other hand, if you usually steer clear of these mean streets but are always game for good writing and a tale well-told, you too will find much to like about Robertson's debut novel." --Heather Hunt, absolutewrite.com
"Paul Robertson put me, a woman who thinks 20 bucks is a LOT of money, into the head of a man with a bank account rivaling that of Bill Gates. Jason Boyer's world is as foreign to me as the terrain on Uranus! I was skeptical at first. I have little sympathy for rich people and their 'problems'. Robertson surprised me by making me care about Jason Boyer. I eagerly suspended my disbelief to walk in shoes I'll never get to try on in real life....
Think drag racing. Robertson slammed his foot on the accelerator and the G-force kept me pinned to the chair until I closed the cover. New plot twists are revealed in a blur, more people die. Red herrings whiz through the air. I couldn't figure out who the killer was. That's a big deal. I'm disappointed if a mystery is too easy to solve.
The Heir made me appreciate the simple life I live. I'm thankful in many ways I don't have the overwhelming burden of wealth like the Boyer family. Wealth without God is ugly. Jason set out to do what's right, but greed wrapped its tentacles around him, drawing him deeper and deeper into the darkness." --Darcie Gudger, titletrakk.com
